Make jar lanterns
Eight of them down the path and the whole approach changes.
What you need
- Jars you were going to recycle anyway
- Tissue paper
- PVA glue, watered down
- Tealights — battery ones if children are about
The trick
Glue the tissue on the outside, not the inside
Inside, it curls and catches the flame. Outside, the overlaps are what make the light uneven, which is what makes it look like something rather than a jar.
Try this
- Orange and deep red overlapping is better than either on its own.
- A black paper face stuck on afterwards turns it into a lantern rather than a candle.
- Space them further apart than feels right — a gap of darkness between each one.
- Forty minutes, plus drying
- Sticky mess
- Small hands welcome
